We're a member-owned, not-for-profit financial cooperative committed to helping hardworking people save money and prosper. As Georgia's oldest credit union, we're proud of our tradition of service. In 1922, Atlanta Post Office employee Claude M. Harrell read an article in Colliers Magazine about Boston businessman and philanthropist Edward Filene and his establishment of a new kind of cooperative financial institution: the credit union. Mr. Harrell believed a credit union's emphasis on people helping people could help improve the financial well-being of postal employees in Georgia.

When our first location opened in 1937, we were known as Combined Locks Credit Union and served only the employees of Locks Mill. In 1974, still only serving the employees of Locks Mills, we achieved the milestone of $1 million in assets. 

In 1987, we became Fox Communities Credit Union. Within 3 years, we grew to 29 employees and nearly $40 million in assets. The various partnerships formed over the years have brought us to where we are today – over $2 billion in assets, 21 locations, serving 17 counties and more than 400 employees serving over 100,000 members.

It’s been our philosophy since we were first established as a community bank in 1901, and it guides the way we do business today. From our headquarters in Johnstown, PA we reach as far as State College, Pittsburgh, and Hagerstown, MD as a modern bank with a traditional approach to serving our customers and our communities.  We are ready and able to assist with every step in your life’s financial journey.  That’s banking for life.

Fairmont Federal Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial organization, democratically controlled, owned and operated by our members for the benefit of all who belong.   The Credit Union was organized in 1939, as Fairmont Onized Federal Credit Union, to serve the employees of Owens-Illinois Glass Co. Since this time, we have changed our name to Fairmont Federal Credit Union and expanded our membership charter to serve anyone living or working in Marion, Monongalia, Preston, Harrison and Taylor counties.
